CAIR Announces COVID-19 Precautions and Attendee Guidelines

Conference Health and Safety

CAIR is actively monitoring the public health context in San Diego County in order to support the safety of conference attendees. Currently, there are no legal or public health requirements in place at the local, state, or federal level for an event of CAIR’s size. In addition, the CDC no longer recommends screening testing for asymptomatic COVID-19 infections. While it is not possible to eliminate the risk of attendee exposure to COVID-19 or other illnesses, CAIR desires to provide an accessible and inclusive forum, and therefore plans to take the following precautions to reduce risk to conference attendees:

  • Holding all large group gatherings in sizable, well-ventilated locations, such as outdoor terraces or other externally-ventilated areas
  • Encouraging attendees to follow safety guidelines (described below)
  • Where possible, maximizing distance between seats in indoor seating areas to support social distancing.

The CAIR board requests that conference attendees protect the health and safety of themselves and others by observing the following guidelines:

  • Do not attend the conference if you have received a positive COVID-19 diagnosis in the past five days, or if you are exhibiting any symptoms that could coincide with a COVID-19 diagnosis (as described by the CDC).
  • If you have experienced close contact with someone who has received a positive COVID-19 diagnosis in the preceding ten days, practice social distancing and remain masked when you are indoors in public conference areas except when presenting, eating, or drinking.
  • The California Department of Public Health strongly recommends masking while indoors. While masking is optional for all attendees, we ask that conference attendees remain courteous and sensitive to preferences and concerns of their fellow attendees.
  • Wash your hands in accordance with CDC guidelines.

As the conference approaches, CAIR will continue to monitor applicable public health regulations and guidelines and make updates to the above accordingly. Updates will be posted at cair.org/news
